Alturas

Located just southeast of Bartow, and southwest of Lake Wales, Alturas, Florida is a small town of just around 4,000 people that was founded in 1911. Although it’s had a post office since before1920, the town itself doesn’t boast a lot to do in the way of activities, restaurants, etc. Many residents commute to other local areas for work and pleasure, but that doesn’t take away from this quaint little piece of heaven nestled between some of Central Florida’s lakes, yellow pines, and Oak trees. It’s a well-loved town that’s captured the hearts of thousands of people over the years.

Once upon a time, this tiny little town was anticipated to become a metropolis as the Capital of Florida Agriculture, due to its many roads, churches, and the up-and-coming citrus industry that developed nearby, but that never materialized. Nonetheless, this small town has persevered, standing the test of time. Now, this small town is over a hundred years old and loved by those who call it home. Many have settled there to raise their families in the small-town atmosphere and to distance themselves from the hustle and bustle of city life. Today it remains a staple small town in Polk County, Florida, in some ways still unchanged from many years before. If you’re looking for a slower pace, and a country way of living, this unique little town in the heart of Central Florida may just be your kind of place.
